DIY Saint Patrick's Day Shirt

With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner a ton of retailers are bringing out their festive apparel. Instead of buying the same shirt that everyone else would be wearing, I found a fun way to make a one of a kind shirt. It's super simple, and I also found a fun way to make it even more unique!

Materials:
A blank shirt (t-shirt, long-sleeve, tank-top, etc)
Scissors
Heat and bond or another type of fusible webbing
Green felt or fabric (you can also get another color for the heart or any other shape/image you'd like on your shirt)
Embroidery floss (color choice depending on felt or fabric colors, or if you want the stitching to stand out)
Sewing needle
Shamrock template (I just print the images from online)

Step 1:
Print the templates from online and put your fusible wedding on top. Trace your designs onto the fusible webbing.
Also feel free to free hand any other images/designs you'd like on your shirt!

Step 2:
Place the fusible webbing over your felt or fabric. Iron your designs/images for about 3-5 seconds. Don't forget to set you heat and bond to WOOL!!!

Step 3:
Cut the excess fusible webbing off, tracing the images/designs you ironed them to.

Step 4:
Place shamrock and/or other images where ever you want them on your shirt with the wedding facing down onto the shirt. Iron them on for about 10 seconds for each image. Keep it on WOOL setting.

Step 5:
Now you're ready to stitch the applied images onto the shirt (for extra hold). Embroidery thread is pretty thick, so you're going to want to separate the strands. I use 2 strands, but depending on how visible you want the stitching, you can use more or less.

Now you have your own custom St. Patrick's Day shirt!

If you want to customize it even more, heres a fun little trick that I love to do on my shirts!

Materials:
A rotary cutter (if you don't have a rotary cutter, scissors are just fine)
Scissors
Fabric Glue
A piece of cardboard

Step 1:
Cut the bottom of the hem off of your shirt. Set it aside because you'll be using this in just a few steps.

Step 2:
Put the cardboard inside the shirt. Have the back of the shirt facing upward. Cut slits in the fabric with the rotary cutter (or scissors if you don't have a rotary cutter). The space between slits doesn't matter, as long as they're evenly spaced.

Step 3:
Get the hemline that you cut off and set aside. Cut 3" strips.

Step 4:
Pinch the fabric in-between the slits to create a bow shape.

Step 5:
Take one of the strips that you cut, and wrap it around the pinch you made. Use the fabric glue to secure the strip.

(Repeat step 4 and 5 to all other middle fabric pieces you can make the bow shape with. )

Feel free to submit photos of your customized St. Patrick's Day shirts! I'd love to see how create you all are!
Until next time..

A.G
